So the FM has gained considerable interest due to its comparative anatomy, ontogeny, clinical, and animal breeding viewpoints. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine morphology and morphometry of the occipital area of 20 mature and immature male Khouzestan river buffaloes. METHODS: 7 parameters of the occipital area and the shape of the FM in the skull of 20 mature and immature male Khouzestan river buffaloes were analyzed. RESULTS: The FM had 4 shapes including round, egg, oval, and tetragonal. In the mature and immature groups, the highest frequency of the FM shape belonged to oval. In the mature and immature groups, the tetragonal FM shape and the oval FM shape had the lowest frequency, respectively. The mean of the width, the length of the FM and the index of the FM in mature group was 38.60± 2.70, 35.34± 2.33, and 92.26±26 mm, respectively and 40.67± 1.51, 36.35± 2.33, and 90.23±3.65 mm in immature group, respectively. Amongst of the all parameters, the width and the length of the jugular process only differed significantly between mature and immature groups. CONCLUSIONS: The variations of the FM shape in river buffalo were more than those of reported animals. The  mean of  the length and  the width of  the FM,  the jugular processes width,  the length of the jugular process, the length  and width  of the  occipital condyles of male river buffaloes were greater than those of reported animals. The index of the FM in river buffalo was less than 100, which corresponded with the findings in rabbit, German shepherd and Pekingese dogs.}, keywords = {foramen magnum,morphologic,Morphometric,skull,Water buffalo}, title_fa = {ویژگیهای مورفولوژی و مورفومتری ناحیه پس سری گاومیش نر رودخانه ای اکوتیپ خوزستان}, abstract_fa = {زمینه مطالعه: سوراخ مگنوم یک نشانه مهم  قاعده جمجمه و یک ناحیه انتقالی بین  ستون مهره‌ای و جمجمه  است  که به دلیل داشتن رابطه تنگاتنگ با مغز و طناب نخاعی از منظر آناتومی مقایسه‌ای، رشد و نمو انتوژنی، بالینی و اصلاح نژاد مورد توجه پژوهشگران قرار گرفته است. هدف: مطالعه مورفولوژی و مورفومتری ناحیه پس سری جمجمه گاومیش نر رودخانه‌ای بالغ و نابالغ اکوتیپ خوزستان بود. روش کار: هفت پارامتر ناحیه پس سری و شکل  سوراخ مگنوم در 20 جمجمه گاومیش نر رودخانه‌ای بالغ و نابالغ اکوتیپ خوزستان مورد ارزیابی قرار گرفت. نتایج: سوراخ مگنوم به صورت چهار شکل دایره ای، تخم‌مرغی، بیضی و چهار ضلعی بود. در هر دو گروه سوراخ مگنوم دایره‌ای شکل، بیشترین فراوانی را به خود اختصاص داده بود و در گروه بالغ سوراخ مگنوم چهارضلعی و در گروه نابالغ بیضی کمترین فراوانی را داشت. میانگین عرض، طول سوراخ مگنوم و شاخص سوراخ مگنوم در گروه سنی زیر 2 سال  به ترتیب  برحسب میلی متر، 70/2 ±60/38، 72/1± 34/35، 02/4± 26/92 و در گروه بالاتر از 2 سال به ترتیب  برحسب میلی متر، 51 /1 ±67/40، 33/2 ±35/36 و 65/3 ±23/90 بودند.  در بین تمامی پارامترها  تنها بیشترین فاصله بین قاعده‌های زایده‌های وداجی و طول زایده وداجی در دو گروه سنی اختلاف معنی‌داری را نشان دادند. نتیجـه‌گیـری نهایی: تنوع اشکال سوراخ مگنوم در گاومیش بیشتر از شتر یک کوهانه و سگ بود. میانگین طول و عرض سوراخ مگنوم، بیشترین فاصله بین پایه زایده‌های وداجی، طول زایده وداجی، طول  و عرض کندیل‌های پس سری در گاومیش بیشتر از میانگین ابعاد به دست آمده در گونه‌های گزارش شده بود. اندازه شاخص سوراخ مگنوم گاومیش‌های مطالعه حاضر کمتر از 100 بود که با یافته‌های سایر محققان در مورد خرگوش، سگ‌های نژاد  ژرمن شفرد و پیکینژ مطابقت دارد.}, keywords_fa = {سوراخ مگنوم,مورفولوژی,مورفومتری,جمجمه,گاومیش}, url = {https://jvr.ut.ac.ir/article_57917.html}, eprint = {https://jvr.ut.ac.ir/article_57917_5fc7ba768a3e38f7f135bc273800f46f.pdf} }
