The purpose of this survey which has been conducted from summer 1994 to Autumn 1995, was to identify the parasitic fauna of rodents in Meshkinshahr, Iran. 132 small mammals were collected by live traps in arid region of the area under study and the following species were found Meriones persicus, Cricetulus migratorius, Mus musculus and Alactaga elater. 116 (87.8%) of collected rodends were Meriones persicus that six genus of helminths were identified as follows. Hymenolepis diminuta (32.7%), Hymenolepis nana vaT. fraterna (7.7%), Tetratyridium (7.7%), Trichuris muris (29.3%), Siphac ia (0.86%), eggs of Capillaria hepatica (1. 7%) and Moniliformis moniliformis (31.8%). Seven genus of ectoparasites were identified as follows:
Xenopsylla gerbilli (93%), Xenopsylla nuttalli (89.6%), Nosopsylla las'datus (5.1%), Stenoponia tripectinata (1.7%), Ornitonyssus bacoti (99%), Trichoeciu'i romboutsi (0.86%) and Haemaphysalis .sp (0.86%).
