Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to compare of serum and cerebrospinal fluid electrolytes of Iranian native cows. Blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples of 447 Iranian cows of three breeds (Sarabi, Golpayegani and Sistani) were collected. Serum and cerebrospinal fluid electrolytes were measured by automated laboratory methods. Comparison of electrolytes in serum and cerebrospinal fluid of Iranian native cows revealed that concentrations of sodium, chloride and magnesium in cerebrospinal fluid are higher than serum. In contrast, concentrations of potassium, calcium, phosphorus and iron in serum are higher than cerebrospinal fluid.
