Abstract

In a fish culture farm in Mashhad city district (North east of Iran)
cultured fishes (common carp, grass carp, silver carp, big head carp)
showed light grey nodules on the caudal fin, peduncle, head and
body surface in early spring. In histopathology examination of the
affected skin, hyperplasia of the squamous epithelial cells,
granulation tissue, infiltration of inflammatory cells, hyperemia,
eosinophilic intracellular inclusion bodies and vacuole (ballooning)
degeneration of the epithelial tissue were observed. Protozoan and
metazoan parasites and also bacterial were not seen in laboratory
examinations. Carp pox was diagnnosed on the basis of groos and
microscopic examinations, season and fish species.
