Abstract

In 1993 an outbreak of omiJhobilharzwsis, an endemic disease of sheep, was occured in babolsar, Province of Mazandaran, north of Iran. The outbreak was mainly occured in 2 regions Gasreh Sorya and Azizak. In these regions about 60% of the infected sheep died due to omiJhobilharzwsis. Survived animals were heavily cashectic, and suffered from intermittent diarrhea, anemia, wool loss and weakness. In the autopsy numerous worms were found in the mesentary. Liver, Lunq, Blodder, Kidney, hear, Iymphnodes and spleen. Ascite and hydrothorax was noticed in the post - mortem. Meanwhile o. turkestanicum eggs were found in the faeces of 72% survived animals.
A reverse relationship was found between the number of adult worms and the number of egg per gram of faeces. Treatment of infected sheep with Praziquantel and trichlorophen was unsuccessfull, and no significant changes were observed in egg count before and after treatment (p>0.05).
