Abstract

During spring of 1995, an outbreak of old world screw worm myiasis occured in khoozestan province, south west of Iran. The majority of infected cases were lambs, although a few cattles, goats and dogs were also infected.
One hundered 3rd stage larvae were collected from infected animals in this area, 98% of them identified as Chrysomyia bezziana and 2 percent were from sarcophagidae. It has been thought that occurance of old worm screw worm among domestic animals is due to climatic changes in this area in this year. There was not any report of this parasite in animals in Iran previously although some cases of human infestation were recorded in south part of Iran.
