Abstract

To evaluate histopathological changes following urinary bladder reconstruction with bovine amniotic membrane , ten healthy mongrel dogs were used. The animals were randomly divided into two groups of five animals each. A piece of 4cm2 in diameter from cranial wall of bladder were resected and replaced with fresh and formalin preserved bovin amniotic membrane respectively
1-listopathological changes on 45 days revealed regeneration of uroepithelium and a few cells of smooth muscle in graft site. The proliferation of granulation tissue, infiltration of lymphoid cells, degenerative changes at the junction of the bladder and graft and hetrotropic bone formation were noted, In addition congestion, Oedema, inflammatory cell infiltartion were seen in two cases. On the basis of these results can be concluded that fresh and preserved bovine amnion act as a scaffold for repair of urinary bladder defects in the dogs. However, long - term study is needed to assess the other clinical and laboratory data before its recommendation in clinical cases.
