Abstract

The genetic breeding improvement plan which carried out between the past decade, put emphasis on selection characteristics such as weight gain and rapid growth in broiler breeders, reduced fertility rate extensively. This occurred due to negative correlation between reproductive and productive trials. Therefore, rapid growth rate in poultry brought about induction the physiological disorders (e.g. reducing of libido, mating number, and semen production). Due to large size and heavy body weight in turkeys and broiler breeders, natural mating is known to be difficult and fertility rate reduces in meat type poultry. Therefore, using of artificial insemination (Al) became very necessary in these birds. Al has many advantages to natural mating e.g. cost effectiveness, higher fertility, hatchability and etc. Utilizing a good semen diluents is of high importance in Al application in order to maintaining the semen in optimum condition. In this project, the effect of three different kind of semen extener such as Sexton (American), IMV (French) and TMU (Iranian semen extender which is developed in this research) were compared on semen quality. The semen which diluted by sexton extender, showed better quality than The other two (IMV & IMU) (P>0/05). No difference were observed between IMV and TMU on The effect of semen quality. Method of semen storage also had significant effect on motility and viability of spermatozoa (P<0/05). Liquid and frozen form of maintaining semen shown significant effect (P<0/01) on sperm quality. Duration of sperm storage affected the motility and viability of spermatozoa (P<0I01). Application of Al immediately after dilution of fresh semen
showed better results. Kind of extender and method of sperm storage affected the rate of fertility and hatchability in broiler breeder hens (P<0/01).
