Abstract

Pseudomonas aeroginosa is an opportunistic human pathogen ranked as the third nosocomial infectious agent. It causes death in patients with severe burns, neoplasia and cystic fibrosis. The most important virulence factor associated to p.aeroginosa is exotoxin A wich by ADP ribosilation of EF2 inhibits host cell protein synthesis. recently passive and active immunization with exotoxin A combined with antibacterial therapy have significantly reduced the death rate caused by pseudomonal infection. For the immunization purposes, in this study, we selected a toxin producer strain of p.aeroginosa, culture it in liquid media and purified toxin using a combination of selective precipitation and ion exchange chromatography methods. Highly pure toxin was obtained in this study showed the same molecular weight and biological activities when compared with standard toxin.
