To evaluate of passive immunity in neonatal dairy calves, 296 samples were obtained during one year (November 1994 to October 1995) and amounts of total protein and gamma globulin
were determined. All calves were Holstein - Friesian and under 7 days old and received colostrum by nipple bottle. The effect ofmonth and season of birth were studied and following results were obtained:
Total protein:6.79± 0.69 g/dl (Mean+ SE), Gamma globulin. 2.5 ± 0.49 g/dl (Mean + SE). Significant differene was seen between month and season for serum total protein with highest level on February and winter and lowest on April and spring (P<0.05). The difference between months of year for gamma globulin levels was significant (P<0.05) with highest amount on March and lowest on July. The difference between seasons for gamma globulin levels was not significant but highest values was seen on winter and lowest on spring.
