The objective of this experiment was comparison blood serotonin levels in ascetic and non ascitic broilers of three strains (Ross, Arbor Acres plus and Cobb). To this purpose, a factorial test in CRD was applied. In each of these three strains, 12 ascitic and 12 non ascitic broilers were selected. After tagging and blood sampling, all of blood samples were divided in two parts. One part was applied for some blood hematological assessment and was collected in tube with EDTA, and another part was used for determining serum serotonin levels and collected in tube without EDTA. The results showed that: the blood serotonin levels among the strains were significant
differences(p<0.05). The blood serotonin levels of ascitic chickens were significantly lower than non ascitic chickens (p<0.05).There was a significant interaction between strain and disease in blood serotonin levels(p<0.05).It can be concluded that the serotonin levels in ascitic broilers were declined however serotonin is a highly effective vasoconstrictor which leads to higher blood pressure and ascites syndrome. The feedback effects, Tryptophan deficiency and the role of thrombocytes to absorbs blood serotonin, can be considered for this phenomenon.
